Diets and dieting

So how is it that I ingest far too few calories in a day and still either gain or maintain the same weight?  Granted I don't get a lot of exercise...ok, no exercise beyond day to day stuff...but still.  What the heck is my body thinking???  Less equals more weight loss...no?  Sometimes I just don't get body chemistry.

Many of us think that eating very few calories a day will help the weight just fly off, but as you have mentioned above, that's not the case. To begin with, when you starve your body with low-calorie diets your metabolism slows down. This is not what you want if you're trying to lose weight. The other thing I have personally experienced when eating "too few calories" is that all day long I'm starving and when I do eat I make poor food choices or snack too much. I think I've only eaten a small amount of calories, but in reality all the bad food choices have really added up. To get an accurate account of your daily calories, I would recommend signing up for one of the free diet trackers online, such as fitday.com. Try keeping track of everything you eat for a week or two. Once you've done this then you'll have a better idea of your calorie consumption and can set a goal for yourself, such as eating only 1600 calories a day spaced out in 5 to 6 smaller meals.

As for the exercise, you really need to step it up. I know it's physically challenging, can be really intimidating and motivation can be hard to come by, but you have to start making some goals for yourself. For example, you could make the goal to walk to 7-11 and back three times a week in the evenings after dinner. Make a goal then stick to it. Exercise is one of those things that can be hard at first, but the more you do it the easier it will become and the better you'll feel.

I wish you all the best for happiness and health.
